Data current as of: 4 October 2026. This is a decision checklist, not a live injury list. The Premier League lists the GW6 deadline as Saturday 10 October, 11:00 BST in its 1 October FPL Pod update. Recheck the official game before confirming changes.
The best use of the FPL international break is to build two plans: the team you can field without a chip, and the team you would build with one. Compare them before spending transfers. Extra planning time is useful; extra transactions only help when they improve the squad you will actually play.
What should you do during the FPL international break?
Start with the next starting eleven, then examine the following three Gameweeks. Separate a player you cannot use from a player you simply wish you owned. That distinction stops an attractive alternative becoming an invented emergency. Record what would change your decision, so late news leads to a specific response.
Use this worksheet before opening the transfer confirmation screen:
| Decision | Write down | What would change the plan? |
|---|---|---|
| Starting eleven | Your formation and first substitute | Confirmed absence or an unusable bench |
| Captain | First choice and vice-captain | Reliable evidence changing expected involvement |
| Transfer | Outgoing player, incoming player, cost | Budget change or a better alternative |
| Wildcard | Your best ordinary-transfer team beside the draft | Several lasting improvements the ordinary plan cannot deliver |
| Budget | Actual selling prices and cash remaining | A price move that makes the complete plan unaffordable |
This is also a useful stopping rule. If the eleven is viable, the bench covers the main uncertainty and the alternatives barely improve the team, there may be no decision to force today.
Should you make transfers early or wait?
Wait when further information could change the player you buy and the move remains affordable. Consider acting earlier when a specific budget constraint would remove a clearly preferred plan. Compare the cost of losing that plan with the risk of committing before international matches and club updates have finished.
An early transfer is not automatically wrong. But “the price might rise” is incomplete reasoning. Write down the alternative you would buy if the price moved. If that alternative is nearly as attractive, the value of rushing is small. Our price-change and selling-price guide works through an affordable-plan calculation.
For availability, check the dated source in the injury centre, then the relevant club’s latest update. A social clip or missing training photograph is not a confirmed diagnosis. Do not copy a return estimate from an old article into a new plan without checking its date.
Is the international break a good time to Wildcard?
The break gives you time to compare drafts, but the calendar does not establish that your squad needs a rebuild. A Wildcard deserves consideration when it fixes several lasting problems together and your free transfers cannot produce a competitive alternative. Compare playable line-ups across the same horizon before deciding.
Our international-break Wildcard test includes two hypothetical squad cases and a draft audit. A red arrow alone is not evidence of structural failure: a sound team can have a poor week, and a weak team can get a fortunate return.
How do you decide whether a points hit is worth it?
Compare the full team with and without the paid transfer, including the substitute who would otherwise play. Subtract the hit from the gain over a realistic holding period. If you can make the same move free next Gameweek, also compare buying now with buying then, rather than assuming you keep the outgoing player indefinitely.
The four-point hit guide shows why those two comparisons can give different answers. Use the same weeks and assumptions for every option; a five-week forecast is not a fair comparison with a one-week forecast.
What should you check before the GW6 deadline?
Recheck the deadline, confirmed squad information, your final transfer cost and the captain and vice-captain selections. If you changed formation, inspect the bench order again. Finish with the official FPL team screen: a draft in a planning tool does not submit your team to the game.
