Best FPL Midfielders 2026/27: Every Price Tier Ranked

Data current as of: 19 August 2026. Prices and ownership are 2026/27 launch values. Coverage: Minutes, points, goals, assists and defensive contribution are 2025/26 finals, since no 2026/27 league football has been played. Six of the players below changed clubs this summer, and those rows are last season's output at a different club.

Midfield is where most of an FPL budget goes. You need five of them, one of them is usually your captain, and the price range runs from £4.5m to £12.0m. The tier you buy in decides how much is left for a £15.5m striker.

The numbers below are last season's finals set against this season's launch prices. That comparison is the useful one, because FPL reprices players every summer and the gap between what someone scored and what they now cost is where value lives.

Which FPL midfielders should you pick in 2026/27?

• Highest scorer: B.Fernandes (MUN, £12.0m) scored 235 points in 2025/26, 33 more than any other midfielder in this season's game.
• Best points per million: Anderson (MCI, £6.5m) returned 27.7 points per million, from 180 points at a £6.5m launch price.
• Best premium under £9.0m: Semenyo (MCI, £8.5m) scored 202 points from 3,200 minutes and 17 goals.
• Best budget pick: Ampadu (LEE, £5.5m) scored 134 points at 24.4 points per million, with 32 of them from defensive contribution.
• Best defensive floor: Anderson (MCI, £6.5m) banked 50 defensive contribution points, hitting the 12-action threshold in 25 of 37 appearances.
• Most owned: B.Fernandes at 49.2% and Szoboszlai (LIV, £7.0m) at 41.3%.

Best premium FPL midfielders: £8.0m and up

Seven midfielders start 2026/27 at £8.0m or above. B.Fernandes (MUN, £12.0m) scored the most points of them in 2025/26 with 235, but Semenyo (MCI, £8.5m) and Gibbs-White (NFO, £8.0m) returned more points per million at 23.8 and 23.5.

B.Fernandes (MUN, £12.0m) scored 235 points last season, 33 more than any other midfielder in this season's game, and 49.2% of squads have already bought him. The 24 assists are the reason: no other midfielder in the game reached 15. At £12.0m he returns 19.6 points per million, which is mid-table for this list, so you are paying for ceiling and captaincy rather than efficiency.

Semenyo (MCI, £8.5m) is the better raw deal at this level. He played 3,200 minutes across 37 starts, scored 17 goals, and comes out at 23.8 points per million against B.Fernandes at 19.6. He is £3.5m cheaper and 26.5% of squads own him.

Gibbs-White (NFO, £8.0m) posts nearly the same profile for £0.5m less: 188 points, 3,101 minutes, 15 goals, 23.5 points per million. Ownership sits at 11.9%, which makes him the differential of this group.

Palmer (CHE, £9.5m) is the one to be careful with. 114 points from 1,954 minutes is the weakest return in the tier, and 12.0 points per million is the worst on this page. The talent case is not in doubt, the minutes case is: 24 starts against Semenyo's 37.

Best mid-premium FPL midfielders: £7.0m to £7.5m

Rice (ARS, £7.5m) is the best of the £7.0m to £7.5m band at 24.5 points per million, from 184 points, 3,093 minutes and 28 defensive contribution points. Szoboszlai (LIV, £7.0m) follows at 22.9, and is the second most owned midfielder in the game at 41.3%.

Rice (ARS, £7.5m) scored 184 points from only 4 goals, which tells you where the rest came from: 9 assists, 3,093 minutes and 28 defensive contribution points. That combination of a nailed starter and a defensive points floor is why he is the best rate in the band at 24.5 points per million.

Szoboszlai (LIV, £7.0m) is in 41.3% of squads, the second most owned midfielder in the game behind B.Fernandes. 3,232 minutes and 20 defensive contribution points make the case, and £7.0m is the cheapest entry point to a nailed Liverpool midfielder.

Rogers (CHE, £7.5m) played more minutes than anyone in this band, 3,280 across 37 starts, and scored 169 points doing it. Those numbers were produced at Aston Villa. He is a Chelsea player for 2026/27, and 26.4% of managers have backed the move already.

Wirtz (LIV, £7.5m) is the priciest name in the band on the weakest 2025/26 evidence: 125 points from 2,374 minutes. 14.5% ownership says managers are buying the second season, not the first.

Cherki (MCI, £7.5m) has the opposite shape. 135 points from just 1,772 minutes and 19 starts is the highest per-90 rate in the band, and 13 assists in that time. The question is whether the starts arrive, not whether he produces in them.

Best value FPL midfielders: £6.0m to £6.5m

This band returns the best points per million of any FPL midfield tier. Anderson (MCI, £6.5m) tops it and the whole position at 27.7, ahead of Wilson (LEE, £6.5m) at 25.8 and E.Le Fée (SUN, £6.0m) at 24.5.

Anderson (MCI, £6.5m) played 3,332 minutes last season, the most of any fit midfielder in this season's game, and scored 180 points at 27.7 per million. He did it at Nottingham Forest and joins Manchester City for 2026/27, where he started the Community Shield in a central role. 9.4% ownership for a player with that minutes record is the widest gap between output and ownership on this page.

Wilson (LEE, £6.5m) contributed 10 goals and 9 assists, the best attacking return in the band, from 2,674 Fulham minutes. Leeds is a different context and a lower shot volume is the obvious risk.

E.Le Fée (SUN, £6.0m) and Gravenberch (LIV, £6.0m) are the two £6.0m players with both bulk minutes and a defensive floor: 2,930 and 2,991 minutes, 16 and 14 defensive contribution points. Le Fée already sits at 11.7% ownership, Gravenberch at 1.9%.

Which FPL midfielders get defensive contribution points?

A midfielder needs 12 combined defensive actions and recoveries in a match for 2 points, against 10 for a defender. Most of the players who score goals never get near that threshold, which means the points concentrate in the deeper-lying part of the position, and the cheaper tiers collect most of them. Anderson (MCI, £6.5m) banked the most in 2025/26 with 50, ahead of Ampadu (LEE, £5.5m) on 32, Scott (BOU, £6.0m) and Fernandes (TOT, £6.0m) on 30 each, and Rice (ARS, £7.5m) on 28.

Anderson (MCI, £6.5m) hit the 12-action threshold in 25 of 37 appearances, a 67.6% rate that no other midfielder comes close to, and banked 50 points from it. That is 28% of his 180-point total arriving from defensive work alone.

Compare that with the premium tier. Mbeumo (MUN, £8.0m) recorded 0 defensive contribution points in 33 appearances. Gibbs-White (NFO, £8.0m) and Cunha (MUN, £8.0m) managed 2 each. B.Fernandes (MUN, £12.0m) managed 10. Paying up in midfield buys goals and assists, and it costs you the defensive floor almost entirely.

Rice (ARS, £7.5m) and Szoboszlai (LIV, £7.0m) are the exceptions worth paying for: 28 and 20 defensive contribution points from players who also start every week for a top side. If you want one premium-adjacent midfielder with a floor, those are the two.

Best budget FPL midfielders: £5.0m to £5.5m

Ampadu (LEE, £5.5m) is the best budget FPL midfielder on 2025/26 evidence: 134 points, 3,119 minutes and 32 defensive contribution points, at 24.4 points per million. Zubimendi (ARS, £5.5m) is the closest alternative at 133 points.

Ampadu (LEE, £5.5m) played 3,119 minutes and hit the defcon threshold in 16 of 33 appearances for 32 points. At 24.4 points per million he is the cheapest way to buy a midfielder who both starts and defends, and 1.5% ownership means almost nobody has him.

Zubimendi (ARS, £5.5m) is the highest-scoring £5.5m midfielder without the defensive volume: 133 points, but only 14 defcon points from 38 appearances. He earns his place on minutes and an Arsenal shirt rather than the defensive floor.

Caicedo (CHE, £5.5m) hit the threshold in 13 of 32 appearances. His 110-point total is modest, but 26 of those points came from defensive work, which is the most repeatable part of any FPL return.

The players with no track record

Tzolis (ARS, £6.5m) is the notable one. He has no Premier League minutes on record, so last season's numbers do not exist for him, and 16.2% of managers have bought him anyway. The only pre-season evidence is friendlies: he started all 4 that were researched, scoring 1 and assisting 3. That is a real signal about his role at Arsenal, from a small sample against variable opposition.

Two other midfielders priced at £6.0m or above have no prior-season record: Munoz (LIV, £6.5m) and Touré (NEW, £6.0m). Neither has ownership above 1%, and neither turned up in pre-season friendly research with usable minutes. The pre-season friendly signals post covers how far that evidence stretches.

What these numbers do not tell you

Six of the midfielders above changed clubs this summer. Rogers (CHE, £7.5m), Bruno G. (ARS, £7.0m), Wilson (LEE, £6.5m), Anderson (MCI, £6.5m), Fernandes (TOT, £6.0m) and Tielemans (MUN, £6.0m) all produced last season's numbers somewhere else. Minutes travel better than goals do, so treat the starts column as the more transferable half of those rows.

Price is not the only thing that changed. Rashford (MUN, £7.0m) is listed at a premium-adjacent price with 0 Premier League minutes last season. There is no 2025/26 evidence for him at all, in either direction.

Defensive contribution rates also follow the role rather than the club. A new manager, a positional switch or a deeper midfield pairing moves those numbers before a ball is kicked, so check current team news rather than locking in last season's rate.
